Unenthusiastic, Indifferent, Negative Thoughts

Unenthusiastic, Indifferent, Negative ThoughtsUnenthusiastic, Indifferent, Negative Thoughts: So, it’s normal to have negative thoughts. It’s part of our evolutionary heritage. Rumination, (reflection of negative thoughts) is counterproductive and sometime escorts you into a dark abyss. The problem is that we become “fused” with our negative thoughts–fused as in joined together as a whole. We don’t step back to get a better perspective.

We don’t ask ourselves necessary questions about our thoughts such as:

  • Will this thought make a difference 5yrs. from now?
  • etc. etc…

Unenthusiastic, Indifferent, Negative Thoughts:

Negative thinking can have a strong and sometimes devastating impact on all aspects of our lives. We have such a strong propensity to favor negativity that we have a skewed vision of reality. Negative thinking can take the form of imagining or expecting that bad things will happen or that nothing good will ever happen for you. The tricky part is that what our awareness “chooses” isn’t always based on our thoughts and our “strong will”, but rather on our true intention and deepest beliefs about ourselves and our reality. You might fret about your health deteriorating, your relationship going downhill, your car breaking down or your career being ruined— even though nothing has actually happened yet.

What we need to do is to relax, and think of the positive and calm “place” we are looking for upstream…

Some basic techniques to limit negative thoughts are:

  • Remove overly negative words from your vocabulary.

Instead of “this is a disaster” it may help to say “this is a challenge“.

  • Remove your Catastrophe thoughts.

You automatically anticipate the worst. Instead, accept it as a learning experience…

  • All or nothing/ black or white thinking.

If I don’t win the game, I must be a loser. Instead, I enjoyed this activity, it was fun!

Negative thoughts are self sabotaging

And tend to stop you helping yourself ‘If I do that, I am bound to fail, so what’s the point?’ they invite apathy, and create their own self fulfilling beliefs. If I believe I am going to fail, the chances are I probably will.

Psalm 119:113

I hate vain thoughts: but Thy law do I love.

Proverbs 22:11

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
